The best way to get more space is to get a larger or auxiliary drive..

It's NOT recommeded to EVER compress a drive.

I should be safe, but it slows down the computer a little. It's really not
worth it. Some games and apps, although rare, say they won't work on
compressed drives. I would buy another hard drive, or a removable USB drive,
or a DVD burner to store and back-up your important files.

If you must compress, compress folders where you have a lot of stuff that
would benefit from compression. MP3's and JPG's don't get smaller when
compressed, since they are already compressed. Program Files & My Documents
may benefit, but again these files are accessed a lot and it may slow down
the system. You can, however, always turn off compression.

I would agree, since people who are technical enough to know they can
compress a drive are probably also smart enough to know there are better
ways to conserve and manage hard drive space.

On Windows XP SP1 & SP2, NTFS, yes drive compression CAN be UNdone for hard
drives, folders, and files. I have performed this operation before.

This is the best I could find direct from Microsoft. If you have something
in contrary, let me know:
"Compression features, including the ability to compress or uncompress a
drive, a folder, or a specific file. (However, a file cannot be both
compressed and encrypted at the same time.)"

Uncheck compression and say yes to include all files and subdirectories I
believe.

That's not applicable to drive compression, Jason. It cannot be undone.

Not advisable - Don't do it - You'll be sorry Take your pick.

Two commercial programs that did that were MS's DriveSpace and Stacker.
Neither was reliable, and both are history.

Check http://www.ebay.com for a new hard drive.
