MY BAD!!!

I just got a Dell laptop with XP Professional. I thought,
what the heck, I'll install XP Pro from the media that
came with my laptop and purchase the license online.

Well, since installation I can't even get online. I can't
even get past an error message that says I'm missing some
files.

So, I purchased Windows 2000 Professional. Not too
thrilled with XP anyway.

Question: How do I get into my computer to get rid of all
XP files. I am even willing to re-format the disk, but I
can't even get that far.

I've tried booting from my win2000 CD, I've tried booting
from my Dell XP CD. No luck.

HELP! It's making me crazy!

I promise Bill that I'll never do it again! I really was
going to buy the XP license.

So frustrating!

The Windows 2000 CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows 2000 to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except for you mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

1. Open your BIOS and set your CD Drive as the first bootable device.

2. Insert your Windows 2000 CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows 2000.

5. After Windows 2000 is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates", starting with SP4.

6. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows 2000 compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

Greetings --

There is no "rollback" to Win2K.

Simply boot from the Win2K installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and/or format the system partition as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
