Is it possible to merge an XLS list into a PPT doc ?

I need to create certificates of participation for several meetings (100s of
attendees) and would like to use the merge feature. Unfortunately, all the
nice looking certificate templates seem to be created in PowerPoint rather
than Word.

Any suggestions? Naturally, my deadline is short (need to complete the
first batch on Nov 12-04).

You could probably copy/paste from PPT into Word to get the graphics moved
across, then use that as the basis of a merge document in Word.

There's also this commercial PPT add-in: http://merge.pptools.com
It adds merge capability to PPT
