....and vice versa? I have done the latter, and every guru I know says it
cannot be done. Well...I did it, but don't remember how I did it.

Thank you.

Since the "latter" is the "vice versa" clause and which means converting
a PDF file to a Word .doc file, I haven't heard of that conversion route
before. However, regarding your original topic in the Subject header,
there are several products that let you create PDF files from any
application that has a print function. I use PDF Creator (look at
sourceforge.net for it).

As Vanguard said, there are many (and many are free) PDF creators - they
generally just function as a "printer".

Google "pdf to doc" and you'll find many products available, but none free
that I can see.

Some programs allow you to convert a file to a .pdf, but not Word, from
what I can find in my copy of Word 2000.

In OpenOffice, the Writer program has an option to Export as PDF. Maybe
some other of their modules allow this too.

Look in your programs for a Save As, or an Export option which might
include PDF files.

Word 2007 allows files to be saved in .pdf format, but I don't believe
it can edit them.

I just copy from the .pdf files and paste into .doc files. As *bloated* as
MS Word 2002 is the resulting .doc files are way smaller than the .pdf files
that I delete. MS Word 2002 makes Adobe look like an absolute PIG.

This does take quite a bit of time and I only do it when I'm bored. ;-)

And I use FoxitReader, not AdobeReader.

I use this website: www.ps2pdf.com . You just have to create a PostScript
printer defintion on your computer then print-to-file. You then upload your
PostScript file, the website creates your pdf and you download it from
there.

Instructions at that website.

In addition - there are several PDF clones available that are much less
expensive than Adobe.

Also Office 2007 provides saving of documents in PDF or XML format.
