I read that it is slowing down some computers, is it even worth it,
why bother, I hate this stuff with microsoft, because they are a
monopoly it is so easy for the hackers to crack the code and
constantly have to update, and then someone wrote it takes up 1.8
gigabytes of hard drive, that is insane, so i ask you, if i didn't
download it, would that be a mistake and why, i just don't want to
slow down a fast computer

As long as you keep your critical updates up to date, antivirus software up
to date (and running), use spyware removal occasionally to remove that crap,
enable the built-in firewall; you should be ok. These are things we should
be doing anyway.

There will come a time that the SP2 installation will become a necessity to
ensure a complete critical update.

SP2 is considered a "Critical Update" and updates over
5 million lines of code in Windows XP. You'll experience
stronger security and a bit more performance by installing SP2.

NO! Installed and couldn't start my computer. Had to go to safe mode and
uninstall. Microsoft tech support said 'they had some problems to work out'
with it. DON'T INSTALL

Going slow is not always bad.
But the user must research possible problems in advance and be ready
for them.
It is extremely unlikely another version of SP-2 would be released to
resolve perceived or actual issues so what would be a problem today
would also be a problem in 6 months if the user does nothing in that
time.
