I want to format the background of all company emails with the company logo.
It appears that I can only accomplish this in HTML format. My IT department
has stated that sending emails in HTML format leaves the company vulnerable
to virus attacks. Given that we have a virus protection program and a
firewall setup on the server, I question their response.

sending... no. receiving it is possible depending on version of outlook and
how well it is hardened. it might be possible that the IT department is
using scare tactics, but w/out more information it is tough call.

ps - outlook 2003 is the most secure mail client from MS. it does not allow
html script to run by default. it uses the restricted zone of IE. If IE's
restricted zone is hardened, it is a pain in the tush to catch what u don't
want.

pss - and before i forget and assuming that the mail server is microsoft
exchange. there are so many exchange aware antivirus solutions that remove
threats before they reach the inbox , it isn't even funny. if IT does their
job right, the html threat pretty much disappears.
