Is Excel the way to go for this Project?

I have the following project, and I would like to see if Excel is th
right program to facilitate it:

I want to set up a program where my salesmen can choose a manufacturer
which will lead them through a series of other criteria from which t
choose. The end result should be a proposal automatically generated i
Word to pass to the customer. The issue is that the choices they mak
need to also generate tables or lists that list the specs of eac
machine. Is that a macros thing? I'm not looking for any coding o
instructions on the actual technical part of this.

What I need to know is 1. Is this an excel project? and 2. Could
learn how to do what is required by taking an excel class (an
recommendations helpful) or would we be better off paying someone to d
the work for us?

I am capable of the learning required, I've just never had to d
anything extensive with Excel in the past
 
I'd recommend Excel, but I am biased.
I've created similar things.

Topics which would be useful for you to learn are Data Validation
Named Ranges, Change Events as a starter.

there are plenty of useful tutorials online if you need to get up t
speed, plus there is always someone on here to help of you get stuck.

Thanks. I just found something on Data Validation that completely
answered my question with that, and I've saved the website where I
found it. Contextures..Is that a good site for finding tutorials?
