When I run windows explorer there is a blip, (not exactly a click - may sound
more like a short sample from hand claping) which occurs irradically. The
sound disappears when I shut down Windows Explorer. Any clue to what this is?

It's the first thing I turn off!

Go to control panel/sounds and audio devices then select the sounds tab and
scroll down to Menu Command in the program events box. Select the drop down
and set it to '(None)'

What does irradically mean?

Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Sounds> Scroll down to "Start
navigation" and set it to "None".

I *HATE* that sound.

It is the Explorer / Start Navigation event. I think some disgruntled
Microsoftie implemented it just to make us Users suffer! Luckily, it
can be individually set to None.

Thanks, I did mean erratic. (and sporadic) Anyway that noise is supposed to
be the sound of the dog scratching. Thanks everyone for your replies.
