Hello there,

Basically the problem is... since getting a replacement
video card I get the blue screen Stop error. It says, IRQL
NOT LESS OR EQUAL. Ive tried all my fiddling to no avail.
Here is on thing I did notice however. Originally after
installing the replacement the new card took up the IRQ of
my pci modem (16). So I removed the modem. No help. I went
into safe mode to snoop around and I noticed the IRQ for
the new card changed from 16 to 11 (which is correct (11)
even by the manufacturers installation instructions). Then
when I boot windows normally, it switches back to 16. and
I have a failure again. So, I have 2 questions. Why does
safe mode switch the IRQ, and how can I make that change
permanent so this can work properly. It seems to me this
is the problem. Any suggestions from the wise ones out
there?

Assuming it's a modern ACPI pc, it's meant to share IRQ's.
For example, I have video card, soound card & nic all sharing
IRQ 5. Works absolutely fine.
See this about your specific problem:

This is probably a driver problem. The reason IRQ's might
change in safe mode is that some hardware that might be
used (using IRQ) in normal mode won't be used in safe mode
so it won't take up an IRQ. But, WinXP should not have
any difficulty sharing IRQ's among devices so I think the
problem is a driver. Try downloading an updated driver
for the video card. The other thing you might try is
uninstalling antivirus software in safe mode and then see
if it boots normally.

Hi, also check that you've not got a PCI card in the slot adjacent to the
AGP one, if so move the PCI card to another. One other cause could be that
your cards are sharing IRQ's allocated by the motherboard, the
manufacturer's manual should give the necessary slots to use....
