IRQ Problems...I think.

I installed windows fresh on a blank HD. It took maybe 4 or 5 times because i
kept getting the famous blue screen with an error starting with IRQ. I am
fairly familiar with the purpose of an IRQ but not sure how to fix or
troubleshoot a problem. I got windows installed okay and everything runs
beautifully exept... I cant rip CD's. Just freezes the program or the whole
computer. I cant access windows system information, says "cannot access
windows managment instramentation software". I dont know how else to find
which devices are assigned to which IRQ so i am assuming that the problems
are related. I have ran diagnostics. Tried different hardware configurations,
and even replaced the sound card with no luck. Please help. I am quite
literate with computers and have intermediate understanding of hardware and
software but cant pin this one down.

Hi, XP shares IRQ's ok so it is unlikely, but not impossible, that this is
your problem. What software are you using to burn CD's with as you'll need
the more recent versions as earlier ones may cause the problem you have....

I kind of thought that the two problems may not be related. I just cant seem
to crack this one. Though i have tried Media Player, iTunes, WinAmp Platnum,
Roxio, and others to rule out that software may be the issue, i found that
every program has the same problem. Every function works perfectly except
when i try to rip a cd it locks up. It affects other windows oddley too.
Changing the way the colors look and when a sound plays after attempting to
rip it sounds extremely amplified and distorted causeing me to have to
restart my computer to get things back in order. Currently after starting
with a clean slate again i am only using XP's Media Player. I figure i will
keep it simple until i can narrow down the source of the problem. Thanks for
responding so quickly. Shawn.

Hi, have you installed the correct motherboard drivers, please post up your
hardware specs....

The exact wording of the error message is the key to resolving the
problem. What "IRQ" is assigned to what at this point is immaterial, as
you don't control the assignment.

The error message came up while trying to install winxp on a clean drive. I
unfortunatly did not write it down because i eventually got past that and was
able to install. However now that its installed everything works beautifully
except i cannot rip a cd and i cannot access my system information under the
system tools menu. It will not give me any information on my hardware. I
understand that the IRQ assignment doesnt matter. It was only that error that
led me to believe it was IRQ related. However I believe if i can figure out
why windows is unable to give any info on my hardware i may figure out the
problem. Any suggestions?
