i am trying to enter ipconfig in command prompt and it is coming up as an
unrecognized command. I looked up the registry entry for:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\Environment

the Path is set to Reg_Expand_SZ, so I'm lost. please help me, the computer
being compromised is my father-in-law's business computer. It is running
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2. Thank you.

Thank you for the link, but as I stated below, the path is already an
expandable variable. If you have any other ideas, please let me know. Thank
you for your time.

Dan,

Is the "system32" folder in the Path?

Yes, it should be in the path.

1.Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2.On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables.
3.Under System Variables double-click the PATH environment variable.
4.Type (append to the existing data):
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\system32\WBEM

Note: If other system variables appear, do not remove them.

5.Click OK, and then click OK.

That worked! Thank you very much, I would never have figured that out on my
own.
