In response to issuing ipconfig I get:
Windows IP Configuration
An internal error has occurred: the request isn't supported
You will obtain further support from Microsoft support services
Further information: it wasn't possible to find the host name

I have these ipconfig files in the Windows\System32 folder:
msvcrt.dll, advapi32.dll, kernel32.dll, ntdll.dll, netman.dll,
dnsapi.dll, ws2_32.dll, iphlpapi.dll, rpcrt4.dll, setupapi.dll,
shell32.dll, dhcpcsvc.dll.

Anyone know what's missing?

Roger,

Is this a new install of WinXP, or has it been in use (working) for a while?
How long? How recently did you run Windows Update?

Try Start - Run - "sfc /scannow". If that doesn't get results, boot from your
WinXP CD, and do a repair install. Don't waste time trying to analyse the
contents of the system32 folder yourself.
