IP Problems

I have a WXP laptop with an issue where it will obtain an
IP and is able to access networked resources using that
IP, however another PC on the local network is not able to
ping it. I have updated the network card driver to resolve
an issue with the Local Area Connection saying that it
sent over 500 terrabytes, i also hoped that this would
have fixed the IP address problem. WRONG (i'm going to
rename this PC "rick james") I checked to make sure that
internet connection firewall was not enabled (i even tried
to enable then disable it).. that did not help. I removed
the winsock and winsock 2 registry entries from the
registry "HKLM>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet", i then rebooted
and readded the TCP/IP Protocol to the local area
connection.. this did not resolve the issue. I cannot ping
this PC by NAME or IP. I tried to set the PC up with a
static address and still could not ping it.. the laptop
will ping it's own IP. I'm soo tired from lack of sleep
that it's possible that i missed something.. I will check
this post tomorrow morning and pray for a miracle.. or at
least something to try ;)

Are you sure its not a problem with the other PC trying to Ping

Whats your end goal on the laptop? Filesharing? Internet?

It is not a problem with the other PC trying to ping. The
laptop in question is a work PC.. i borught the laptop
home and connected it to my router and still can't ping
the laptop.. the laptop can only ping itself and the
router.. The PC still works.. it can access the internet
and network shares.. i guess i stumbled on this problem
while @ work when i tried to PCAnywhere to the laptop. I
was unable to.. upon further investigation i could not
ping the laptop either..

Try a powercycle
Unplug the router and shut the computers down
Plug the router in and fire up the computer and try again

Has a firewall program been installed and then un-installed on that
computer? If so, re-install the same firewall program and un-install
it again.

Go to Start | Run | Msconfig | Startup and look for any firewall
program remnants, such as ZoneAlarm's "TrueVector" service. Disable
any remnants that you find by un-checking their boxes.

No as i stated earlier. The built in firewall was disabled
(i enabled it and disabled again it for good measure) and
there are NO 3rd party apps such as Zonealarm, blackice,
etc.
