Performed a clean install of XP Pro and everything worked fine. I installed
SP2 and now anything that has to do with TCP/IP does not work. ie.. Internet
explorer. I can not even talk to my DSL router. I have completely diasabled
the firewall and still nothing. I have enabled the firewall and give it
permission to let everything through that was available and still nothing. I
have reinstalled twice with the same results. I am not a newbie. I have been
a network admin for 8 years and have not seen anything like this. Does anyone
have any idea?

Possibly a winsock problem? Not sure but maybe this will help.

Are you using the IP proprietary software or the Xp PPPoe ? Have you
reinstalled the driver for the Ethernet card ? Look in Device Manager for
this error. JJ

Well it turns out that the driver that I had downloaded for the NIC would not
work with SP2. I tried a different driver that had a higher encryption and
that seemed to fix the problem. Thanks for the comments!
