I am trying to set up a D-Link DI 624, without success. I
was told that the problem is with my operating system
(Windows XP)because it will not give me an IP address.
The messages received are: "IP address for adapter Local
area connection has already been released". Then: "An
error occurred while renewing interface local area
connection: The system cannot find the file specified."
Can anyone help? THANKS!

Not quite sure what you are trying to achieve. I have a mized home network
XP, W2K, Mac OS all linked through a DI624+. works without a problem. Can
you explain a bit more about what you are trying to do, and at what stage
you have got to then might be able to help

My operating system is windows XP. I have DSL. I am
trying to network my laptop to my desktop with the D-Link
624 wireless router. We cannot get it to work at all. The
D-link help line said that I need an IP address in order
to set up the router, but we have not been able to obtain
one and I keep getting the same messages that I wrote
earlier. So they are telling me that it is a problem with
the operating system.

The problem is with Windows XP, not with the DI-624. It's likely that
your computer's network adapter or its driver program isn't properly
installed.

In the Network Connections folder:

1. Right-click the local area network connection.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click Configure and note the name of the network adapter.
4. Click Cancel.
5. Click Start | Run, type "devmgmt.msc" in the box, and click OK.
6. Click the "+" sign next to Network Adapters.
7. Right-click the network adapter that you identified in #3.
8. Click Uninstall.
9. Click Action | Scan for hardware changes.

Windows XP will re-detect and re-install the network adapter and its
driver program.
