I was hit with lightening yesterday and had to get a new cpu and router. One
of my machines identifies the IP address correctly, but the second is unable
to complete the connection to the internet. The router company says it is a
system problem rather than a router problem. Can someone advise???

It is difficult to tell from your post, but you may have
lost the network card in the system that is "not findin automatically"
since if you are using DHCP (where the system gets it's
IP address from a DHCP server - probably the router),
it needs to be able to talk to the router to get it's address.
Or, you may have forgotten to plug the network cable
back in ?? What address does the machine that can't
connect show when you look at the network properties
on that machine ?? One test you could try would be
to set the IP address of the machine that can't connect
manually to one in the same network as the router and
see if you can "ping" the router from the command
line. You don't say what router you are using, but typically,
they will have an ip address along the lines of
192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1
