In Office Picture manager, there used to be a function that will inverse the
colors of a picture, which is very useful in making powerpoint slides with
dark background.
In Office XP, I can't find this function. Is it... gone?

Did you try asking this in the Picture Manager newsgroup?

Oh, crap. I don't think there *is* a Picture Manger newsgroup!

So I had a look in Picture Manager 2003 and its Help files, but I also
cannot find anything to invert image colors. I'm pretty sure that that
Picture Manager was introduced with Office XP, so I suspect you're thinking
of a different application -- maybe Photo Editor or something?

You might give Irfranview a shot. It's a great little image application --
and it's free. It has a couple of settings (negative, grayscale, etc.), that
may help here. http://www.irfanview.com/main_download_engl.htm

Office 2003, I think, not XP. Not betting large sums on that, understand, but
anything up to the price of a latte at even odds and I'm good.

But if you open in PhotoEditor and choose Effects, Negative and put a check
next to all three channels it should do the job.

No, I think you're probably right.
