Hi Everyone,
I just converted a Lindows OS over to Win XP. The hard drive had three
partitions on it. I only deleted the largest one and repartitioned it (56.2g
out of a 60g hard drive) and installed XP on that one. I do know Win made
one of the partitions invalid, but do not know which one. Everything is
working beautifully, but when I boot or reboot I get this little notice
(invalid filename). I just ok it and it leaves, but it is beginning to be a
nuisance. Anyone know how to fix it?

Sure you may ask. I got the computer from the factory with Lindows
(Linspire) already installed. It was version 4, which worked very well. But
when I upgraded to ver 4.5 everything went downhill from there on. Although
I could still get on the internet I could no longer access their warehouse
or downloads and the anti-virus program would no longer work. However, I had
a paid subscription until 9/2004. I tried to get it working , but could not
and Linspire was no help. I knew the "Deluxe Kool-Box was a very good
computer and the price was very reasonable, a Dell I am quite sure, so I
felt quite comfortable in deleting the Linspire OS and installing XP.
Everything was compatible with Windows. I had a little trouble getting into
the hard drive, but found out how through the news groups. They are quite
helpful. Thanks for asking.

That is the reason linux is still behind in the desktop area,
even Lindows that has a user friendly configuration. If something goes wrong
its hard to fix....
But perhaps this will be fixed in the future.
If you still want to have linux without disturbing your computer you can
download
the knoppix 3.4 iso and burn it to a cdrom.
This version of linux runs from the cdrom only (you must boot from the cd),
it doesnt touch the hard drive and configures everything automatically, so
its really easy to use, and there is no way to destroy it lol.

Just when does it appear: In particular is it before the Windows splash
screen and Welcome, or after?

Alex,
It appears after the welcome screen. In fact it shows after everything has
booted. It is the very last thing to show.

Then it isn't anything to do with your earlier installation; but is
something spurious set to run at Startup. Start - Run - MSConfig.exe
and look for it on the Startup page , in the Command column: some file
name with weird characters in it. Uncheck the line. Exit - do not
bother to reboot, but next time you do there will be a message about
'System Configuration'. Check the 'Do not show again' box and exit
