Intranet Communication

I have a 2-computer home intranet with my wife's computer
and mine communicating with each other by NIC's through a
cross-over cable. My wife's computer is running 98, while
I have upgraded to XP. Back in the days when I also ran
under 98, we could both get the other's attention through
WinPopup. Now, however, she can WinPopup a message to me,
but I can't respond.

Sure, I've used "net send wife's-computer-name <Message>",
but it doesn't always work. So I made sure I had Windows
Messenger installed, but that only works with (a) Internet
e-mail accounts, and worse (b) only folks who have gotten
on to the MS bandwagon with the same software.

This is so frustrating. What is XP's equivalent of
WinPopup? Or has XP screwed me?

Oh dear not speaking to each other are we? That will teach you to get home
late with lipstick on you collar...

I don't think WinXP supports WinPopup. Try this page for an alternatives to
Winpopup. (Netsend or Tiny Message etc)

Hi,
There is no such utility as WinPopUp in Windows XP. The
best is to get any Lan Messenger which will work in
windows 98 and windows xp. The reason is that Windows 98
and Windows XP are total different Operating systems
working on totally different Enviornments. Its just like
an English man and a Chinese man. Both are Windows but
are totally different from the root.

What happens when you try it and it doesn't work? If you get an
error message, please quote it verbatim.

If you want to do this in a windowed app, there is no winpopup,
but there are several freeware/shareware programs available that
do similar things. One that I've used successfully is called
Nethail. A google search will turn it up.

Please try LanTalk XP instead
