I am new to computers and could really use a very simple and basic way to
install i think a toolbar. On the top of my aol page I have no way to reach
the internet. It will let me search , the page is full of things I can click
on to go to but I need to be able to reach the internet ie. www. I am sure
this is a very simple procedure but when you do not have the computer lingo
mastered it is difficult. Please consider this when you reply. When I click
on the e for explorer on the bottom where the statr button id all I get is
the aol page . Can some kind person out there "PLEASE"
help me. Thanks so much. Liz

If I read your post correctly, you are not able to leave the AOL site
when you are online. On clients' computers where I've seen this, the
symptoms have been caused by malware so make sure your computer is
clean. See information here about doing that:

After you know your computer is completely virus/malware-free, if you
are still getting the problem contact AOL tech support for help with
their program.

You're already on the internet: you're using it to have this discussion
with people all over the world.

So try this: bring up your E for Explorer screen, hold down the "Ctrl"
or "Control" key somewhere on the left side of your keyboard, and type
(while holding down the Ctrl key) "L". That should bring up a window
with "Open" at the top. Type "www.microsoft.com" .

If you get something officially-microsoft-looking, all that's happened
is whoever set up your web browser hid the "address bar" where you can
always see (and change) the internet address you're looking at.

That'll get you started. As you learn how to use your computer you'll
learn how to get the address bar back, and generally set your computer
up to run exactly the way *you* want it.

I notice you're not running the most current version of Windows. If
you're on a dialup connection, do this at night as soon as you won't
need the phone for hours and hours; with broadband it'll just take a
while. Hit Ctrl-L again and type "windowsupdate.microsoft.com". Trust
what it tells you to do.

To start learning more about your computer, hold down the key with the
Windows (flag) logo on it and then tap the "F1" key on the top row of
your keyboard.

Hope this helps,
Jim
