Hello,

I believe you have been infected by a worm. Make sure you virus scanner
is up to date. Microsoft has posted multiple security alerts for the RPC
Dcom problem.

If you can map your disk drive to one of the PC's and run the updated
scanner against that drive.
Then go to the Microsoft web page

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

And get all the Critical Updates that they have. start at the top and
install them all

Hello again,

No it may not have it. That is dependant upon when the CD was built that
is why they do the updates as soon as you install the scanner to get the
current files. Some of these CD at the retail stores are maybe months old.

You said you ran the removal tool ? .Did you read all the directions on
that page ?
If you got it from the site below I would be at loss for were to go next.

Have you verified that your network interface is still functional? Can you
see your other computers on your home network? Can you ping the "bad" pc .
Can you ping to the other PC's from the "bad" PC ?

You can go to :
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/tools.list.html
select the W32.Mydoom@mm tool. It will take you to their web page with
all the directions. You can download the tool from one of your other or a
friends computer that can talk to the WEB pages . PLEASE READ all the
directions. Print them out so you can refer back to them. The file will fit
on a floppy disk so it should not be a problem to copy it and run it on your
pc. You may need to run it several times. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. Make sure
the floppy you use is a fresh format to sanitize it before you use it.
If the virus is there the tool will tell you and clean out all the files and
registry issues that it messes with.
Your other choice would be to a service , like BEST BUY , COMPUSA, or a
small reliable local computer shop. It may cost you some bucks. If you buy
the NEW Virus scanner you could still try it on the bad PC. If that does not
work try to MAP the "BAD" PC's disk drive and scan it from another working
PC that has the correctly installed and updated scanner files. If you have
trouble with this you may need to take it in for work. :(

Get all your PC's up to date from the Microsoft web site it is an absolute
must. AND IT IS FREE .

Good Luck,

Supertech
