Hi,

I am runnig IE 5 with XP home without SP2. Also I have Norton Internet
Security and Adware install and I did live update for both.

Clean for virus and spyware, after all this system is still very slow. Most
of the time system get hold, you can not reboot and only option is to power
off.

Any idea to resolve this issue greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

You are well behind the curve as far as updates are concerned..../

open Windows Task Manager.
if there is/are process(es) consuming nearly all of your CPU and/or
virtual memory, then there is your problem. newly launched processes
will be slow because there are little resources remaining.

if your System Idle Process is using over 95% of your CPU, then the
explanation to very slow programs could be (a) very slow CPU, (b) very
slow disks, (c) very little memory, (d) very slow internet connection,
or something else that is very slow and needs to be replaced.

my HP was slow as you described i had only 128 mb's of ram"the bare minimum
xp needs" added another 128 helped alot!!! to see how much ram you have
go to start/control panel/performance&maintenance/system..under general tab
...will be at bottom of page...see how many programs you have on start
up..start/run/type in msconfig//startup tab/..uncheck any that you dont need
running at startup " messengers, real player, etc."
