internet sites

for about 4 months we cannot access many sites we used to access frequently.they are in are "favorites".what happens is that we get a message "there is no web site configured at this address".i have checked the internet options on my computer at work and compared them to what we have on our home edition of windows xp,but i cannot see anything different.we used to be able to use all the search engines but only the microsoft default engine accesses the internet but it will not go to many of the sites or allows us to go to the other search engines we used to go to.example yahoo,google,ask jeeves.etc.etc.
what did we do and how can this be fixed?????
 
Hi Mike, I may be wrong but it sounds a bit like this trojan or something
similar. Worth a look anyway.
