Quite often I copy an URL and then would like to straight away paste it
as a shortcut into a folder. You can go through the new shortcut
wizard, but this is quite lengthy. Is there a quick right click
utility which could speed things up eg right click - paste as shortcut?

Thanks

Place your mouse cursor over the little icon that appears on the extreme
left of the address. When the cursor turns into a hand, you will be able
to drag & drop the shortcut onto your desktop or any other folder that
you have created.

Thanks. This is fine if the page is open in IE or similar, but not if
you have copied the shortcut from somewhere else eg a document or
middle of a web page. Any other ideas?

If you drag a link from IE to your desktop, then open it in Notepad,
you'll see what the format is (it's an .ini file). You don't need the
"Modified" line. Just make your file look like that.
