I currently have a dial up service that will expire 3/17/2006. I am also
tired of the slow wait associated with dial up and would like to replace the
dial up with something that is economical, reliable and available.
Please advise me of what I should be looking for. I hear about DSL, but I
have no idea what my choices are. Jim

Try going to bellsouth.com and check out the fastaccess DSL offers.. Check
to see if it's available in your area.. If not, try http://www.comcast.com &
http://www.adelphia.com for Cable, which is faster than DSL..

Economical would be maybe Verizon DSL.. At verizon.com/dsl I believe.. That
wasn't available in my area but it could be in yours.. Hope this helped..

Try broadband cable if it's available in your area. It's not expensive;
especially for what you get--FAST communications. Ours also provides
telephone service, just like landline, and you have the same telephone number
at great savings over landline fees.

3 technologies to choose from:

1. Cable
2. DSL
3. Satellite

The first question you need to answer is: which of those technologies
are an option in your area? DSL typically comes from a Bell company and
uses fiber optic cabling. So, if you're out in the country, that may not
even be an option--cause it's not cost effective for them to tear out
the existing lines and replace them with fiber optic lines.

Do you have cable TV in you area? If so, cable internet is probably an
option, and a very good option because of it's high speed and it's
hardwired from them to you. This is the option I use and recommend.

Do you have satellite TV in your area? If so, they may offer broadband
internet access.

For more info, do a Google search on:

1. broadband

2. "Road Runner" internet

The first search will get you general info on broadband. For analogy
sake, that's like doing a search on automobile. You'll learn about cars
but won't know the difference between a Ford and a Chevy.

The second search will get you specific information on 1 vendors
service, Road Runner by Time-Warner. NOOOO... I'm not endorsing
Time-Warner. I just expect that you will find a good write-up on cable
internet access at their site.

Hope that helps!
