Just purchased a new pc with win xp home version.By going
to tools then internet options then the advanced tab, I
do not see the MICROSOFT VM option( which had some Java
options as one of the boxes to check) which was right
below the HTTP 1.1 SETTING that my old pc had,I had win
2000 on the old pc. I'm trying to run a program on the
ESPN web site( game cast, for live baseball game)) that
requires a JAVA (TM) enabled browser, either IE 5 or
netscape 4.5,I have IE 6.0 version,HELP anyone, thanks.

Hi Al,

Your Internet Explorer Advanced tab is blank?
This is due to missing entries in windows Registry.

Refer:
http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBF/TIP2900/rh2962.htm

this is the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AdvancedOptions

Another option to resolve the problem is copy the above registry key from
another computer running Windows XP with IE 6.0 and save it as a .reg file.
Copy the contents to the subject computer and merge it.

Al,

Open a Command Prompt window (Programs, Accessories) Enter JVIEW and press
Enter. If you get an error message, then the Java VM is not installed. Its
possible that you have XP SP1a. The Java VM was removed from XP because
of the court battles with Sun.

If you need to download Java, you can find a recent version at
