How can I disable the Clear History function? My teenage
kids "accidentally" keep clearing the history - which not
only eliminates all traces of their browsing, but also
the sites I have visited. I would prefer not to get a net
watching program as I find they slow my machine down too
much.

Hi -

I'm gonna enjoy this - I've raised three teenagers ;-)

If you're running Windows XP Professional you have an
option - the group policy editor.

Run "gpedit.msc" -

Browse to Local Computer Policy --> User Configuration --
Administrative Templates --> Windows Components -->
Internet Explorer

In the right pane, double-click "Disable changing
Temporary Internet files Settings" and set it
to "Enabled". Do the same thing with "Disable changing
history settings".

It's a good idea to insure the kids are *not*
administrators on the machine - if they are they can
change the policy back. But - you should be able to pick
up the changes in the machine's security log.

If you're running XP Home this won't be an option - but
would be strong motivation to upgrade to XP Professional -
at least that way you can set the policies without
taking the performance hit you're concerned about.

Good luck -
