Internet not working after fresh reinstall of Windows?

Okay, here's my problem. I just reinstalled Windows 2k this morning on my pc
(currently on my laptop) and my internet refuses to work. All the other
computers in the house are working fine online (we're on cable by the way),
my computer was working fine last night (with the exception of virus popups
every 10 minutes, which is why I reformatted in the first place). Now, I just
did this exact same thing a few weeks ago with my friend's computer..
Internet worked fine before the reformat, and after (although it took a
little bit of tinkering to get it to work). When I did my friend's computer,
everything worked fine after a little bit of playing around, but I've been
screwing around with the internet options on my pc after the reformat for
about an hour, and I can't make it work. Any suggestions?
Any help is appreciated.
 
....I'm not exactly sure what you mean...
I opened up the command prompt and typed that in, but the information it
says is all german to me.. Here's what it says:
Windows 2000 IP Configuration
Host name: Catster (that's why I named my computer, don't ask)
Primary DNS Suffix:
Node Type: Broadcast
IP Routing Enabled: No
WINS Proxy Enabled: No

Are you trying to use the wireless connection? If so try using the wired
port first.
