Internet issue

i have a very bizarre problem and to add to that problem i am not as
technically gifted as some of you out there so i am hoping someone
reads this, and either helps me, or points me in the right direction.

first off i will explain the home situation. my adsl modem (d-link) is
plugged into wireless router (netgear) which in turns plugs into my pc.
there is sometimes a laptop connected as well. the problem is hard to
explain so i will do my best. when i start the pc and all my services
begin to run, the ones that connect to the internet (anti-virus
updates, etc) arent able to connect and when i myself load up internet
explorer (homepage google.com.au) i get an error page cannot be found,
something about DNS, the weird bit is if i refresh the page 1-3 times
the page comes up. sometimes i can got to a page and all is fine and
sometimes i get the error "PAGE CANNOT BE FOUND" but if i refresh there
it is. sometimes if i go to the page for example like ebay.com.au the
page comes up but inline framed pages wont appear. its only a recent
problem and i cant for the life of me think what the issue is.

i have tried plugging the pc straight into the modem and i still get
the same problem, i have also tried using my friends router also to no
avail. looking forward to help or suggestions you might have. sorry for
the long winded message...

This could be a DNS problem. What DNS setting is the computer getting from the
DHCP server in the router? Or it could be an MTU issue.

hi chuck, thanks for the response. i am not sure i understand your
question though:

router?"

but i have read the articles which you suggested and when i get back
home i will have a further look into the solutions you suggested.
