when browsing ebay(only noticed here so far) a friends lap top displays a
page full of what looks like nonsence but probably some sort of computer
coding, little squares and shapes etc. this only happens when trying to view
the listings of the auction, catagories etc are fine. tried a restore,
deleting temp int files etc with no luck....any ideas ?

Does it happen in other computers as well? or just your friend's laptop?
Are you accessing a foreign Ebay site? Can you give us the link that you're
trying to access in particular?

GLuck!

no delbert i checked on a few pages on hers that all give the same result,
tried the same on mine at home and all ok, strange that its only the actual
auction page thats a problem( the one you actually bid on) and its ebay.co.uk
she uses. looks like i'll have to re-install xp for her, didnt wat to really
as its the tosh disc with the trial norton etc and no option but to wipe
entire drive.

Do you have an alternate internet browser such as mozilla, opera or netscape?
Did you try accessing the very same page using those alternate web browsers
and still giving you this error?
Might be possible to install a language pack on that machine first b4 you
refresh the system. Find a language pack in MS that would support multiple
foreign languages so that it can display the features in ebay page that you
were trying to access.

GLuck!
