What is happening here.

I have a small office network with win98 and one winxp computer, and am
adding another new winxp pro computer. The computers share a dsl internet
via a router. IF I enable ICF on the new xp computer, I can no longer see
the other computers in the workgroup. IF I remove ICF, then I can see the
other computers.

How do I maintain ICF and still have windows networking?

Thanks.

Read XP's HELP for ICF. ICF is only intended to be used on a computer
directly connected to the Internet. It clearly states in the HELP that ICF
installed on a LAN computer may interfere with network communications.

Well, you'd think they'd be able to recognize when packets came from the
Internet and when from a lan. But, maybe that'd be a securiyt problem as
well.

Thanks for the info.

ICF is a very limited firewall app. You are mis-using it and then
complaining about it -- rather like complaining about the lousy luggage
space in a bicycle.

Disable ICF, and get a better firewall for your PCs, such as one of the
ZoneAlarm products from www.ZoneLabs.com
