When clicking on IE it notifies that a 'Buffer Overrun has been detected' and
that it is internally corrupted. I can use the 'without add-ons' version, but
this is limited.
I am unsure which version it is (how can I tell?)
Any thoughts anyone?

Do you have Google Toolbar, Yahoo Toolbar, Etc... installed on your computer
try to disable them from the Add-Ons Manager mentioned below in this Post.
1= Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window
you will see these Options:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs
| Advanced .

Click on General Tab (1st Tab on the left) and you will see a Button called
[ Clear History ..] click on it to clear your History caches, then click on
[Delete Files..] to delete Internet Files created over the time, click on [
Delete Cookies...] to delete your cookies left by visiting websites.

= Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow installed on your
browser, On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:
Click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there Disable
the None/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons ( you can Renable them one-by-one
later and see which is the culprit or you can send them here in your next
post) and click [OK] to confirm your Changes.

Click on Advanced Tab and scroll down under the browsing option and uncheck
this box:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) aqnd click Apply
then Ok to close your IE Properties.

Scan your computer with online scanner from here:
http://www.pandasecurity.com/activescan
http://www.trendmicro.com
And also for malwares from here:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D

3... You may have a bad RAM try to test your RAM by running Memtest by
downloading this tool and unzip it and make a floppy or CD/DVD and run it on
Reboot.
http://www.memtest.org/
You may need to reposition/reset the RAM sticks in their slots.
Look in the Event viewer for any Error Messages and post them here if the
above didn't help.
To know what version of IE? click on the Help and select About!.
Please if the above didn't help you repost your Question to one of the IE?
newsgroup to get better opinions and answers.

Adding to the above try these links and scenarios here for Memory leakage:
PoolMon Examples
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms792885.aspx

How to Use Driver Verifier to Troubleshoot Windows Drivers
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/244617

There is a HotFix but it depends on your issue nature and you need to
contact MS ( this still a guess though until you be sure it is a memory leak).
If the above will a lot of hassle then Back up your data and be ready for a
clean install, but first see other options you may not have a trouble at all
or serious issue.

Unchecking the 'Enable Third-Party' box did the trick. One final question.
Do I just leave that box unchecked now?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Glad it was just a factious guess from me, more than serious one!.
Yes leave like this, I have on my machine unchecked but if you have another
Toolbar you would like to use I advise you to uninstall and get a new one
more stable and not buggy and recheck this back ON, if you do not then I
think you have a plug-ins hooked on your browser try to scan for it by
anti-Spyware or check the Plug-Ins and try to verify them one-by-one and see
which represent a threat to your browser and remove it.

Buffer overrun Windows explorer

and what was the cause and the solution? Thanks for any helps

I started to get the same note recently when I am on the net trying to sign
in to an MSN site, I got the problem too about a week ago after my
explorer was updated I have the same problem now for a whole week after I
upgraded my Internet explorer, I really do hate those Internet explorer's
updates too now, anyway my computer works fine even the Internet explorer,
but the same Internet
explorer crashes only when I try to sign in on some of my Internet sites,
MSN included. I tried to run windows explorer with no add on and I still got
the same errors. I even reinstalled windows XP twice too.. I use the computer
about ten hours per day for years too. I ran all the diagnostics, memory
checks, virus and spyware checkers as well, and I talked to two professional
computer store tech service technicians now about it too.. and no help or
solution.. It is a really big pain!!!

Here is a great site but it was no use to me here...

Re Diagnose XP - A Windows XP Diagnostic Guide

" Diagnosing System problems can be very complicated and time consuming.
There are no simple solutions.

Windows XP systems should never Lock-up (freeze), display Blue Screen Stop
Errors or Randomly Reboot. These are all warning signs something is wrong or
misconfigured with your system.

Unless you are a highly trained, experienced PC Technician do not skip any
of the following steps.

Step 1 - AntiVirus
Step 2 - AntiSpyware
Step 3 - Windows Update
Step 4 - Drivers
Step 5 - Harddrive
Step 6 - Data Recovery
Step 7 - Memory
Step 8 - System
Step 9 - Internet
Advanced
Resources"

Fully detailed at http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/DiagnoseXP.html

PS I really do now hate it when they do upgrade the Interent explorer for it
seems now for years too there is always a hard crash following or major
problems after doing so too..

Nice 1 nass,
I was at the point of ripping my hair out when i stumbled on to your advice,
which
i followed to the letter..............1 week later............not a single
buffer overrun!!!
Cheers nass...YOUR THE MAN!!
