What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version
not earlier than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) show? Also,
remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from
www.safer-networking.org and Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure
to update these programs before running them. These programs are free,
so run them both since they complement each other. It is best to run
antivirus and spyware removal tools in Safe Mode. You may also need to
run CWShredder from http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/index.html .
Please read the instructions carefully. Also, make sure you've visited
Windows Update and applied all security patches. Do not install driver
updates from Windows Update. Make sure you are running a firewall.

I have already downloaded and ran both Spy Bot S&D and
Adware 6.0. Along with running my anti virus to insure
that all viruses are clear. Prior to running each of
these programs I made sure that all updtes were current.
I have alos tried looking on the windows update page to
see if there are any updates for my problem. I have
looked at google groups and have found others in my
situation, but I am unable to to perform some of their
fixes because of my level of expertise.

Look at the fixes under "I" for Internet Explorer on MVP Kelly's
excellent site:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm

If the instructions look too complex, then take the machine to a good
local repair shop (not a BestBuy or CompUSA type of store) and have
them look at it. It's hard to tell what the issue could be from reading
your post and not being able to see the machine. Someone with
"hands-on" might catch it immediately. Unfortunately, some of the
nastier malware like CoolWeb Search and Look2Me requires more than just
running Spybot and Ad-aware. You could add CWShredder to your arsenal,
which you can get here:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/index.html

Post back if we can be of further help, and good luck.
