I am unable to access any "secure" websites. For example...those sites requiring me to answer "OK" to the "Security Alert" box. When I attempt to open this type of page, I get the "Cannot Find Server" error. I've also noted that in the AOL web address windowthe web address will change to..."res://C:\windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm#http(web address I was trying to reach)". If I go directly through IE, the address changes to..."http:///? (web address I was trying to reach)". Going through AOL, I'm able access non-secure sites, but using IE directly, I'm unable to open anything

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition and have tried using Restore, but that did't help. I've also tried coming to Microspft's site and re-downloading IE. Setup will not complete...at the point where it goes out to download the necessary files, I get an error telling me it's unable to access the site. I'm assuming this is caused by my main problem

Can somebody please give me some assistance. I'm not terribly computer literate, so please give detailed instructions. For example, if I'm going to have to reinstall XP...please let me know how to do that

Thanks for any assistance you will offer!

In Internet Explorer -
1. Tools > Internet Options > Advanced
2. Scroll down to the Security Settings.
3. Make sure that the two boxes are checked that say
"Enable SSL 2" or "Enable SSL 3".
Try your secure sites.

Another thing you can try is:

Go to start/run
Type in: regsvr32 softpub.dll
