internet explorer opens too quickly

my mom's xp computer uses a dialup connection to the internet. After
she logs on her Internet Explorer opens but to a blank page (same as what
you get when you open it with no internet connection establish). She then
needs to close that window and re-open it, to get the internet home page.

it would appear that IE opens to quickly and needs to wait a bit more to
avoid getting the "blank page". Is there any way to fix this? Mom is a
new user and I am trying to simplify her experience.

Well, if the home page is defined to be something on the internet, until
the dial-up makes a connection to the internet the fact is that you will
get a "blank page". That's life.

You can:

1. Get your mother to not worry about it (may be hard)
2. I'm thinking that IE is in the startup folder and starts up
automatically. Remove it from startup and instead teach Mom to start IE
after making the dialup connection.
3. Create a new local Home page, say a file on the c: drive somewhere.
that will load with or without an internet connection. Use it to
remind her of key instructions. Could be something as simple as (which
you can expand on):

Mom's Home Page

Welcome to Mom's Home Page.

Love,
Alan

Instructions

Connect to the Internet by (fill in here)

Once connected, you can view web pages via Favorites (see left)

As you discover new favourites, add them by pressing the menu:
Favorites | Add to Favorites...

(continue with other instructions)

some good thoughts I will consider- IE starts up after the log on to ISP -
it is not in windows startup group.

I thought perhaps there was a way to prevent it from starting up after log
on - or delaying it a bit

Sorry, can't help further. I no longer use dial-up. I'm surprised that
IE Starts up automatically. Not necessarily something everyone wants.
*Something* causes that. Need to track that down. Some config option in
the dialer. It might be something special provided by the ISP, I don't
know.
