Hi all. Don't know if this has been posted or not but I just started having
problems with Internet explorer, V6 208.1106.
Just started and XP will not allow me to restore.
Windows XP Professional, SP1.
Problems are, Java has been damaged
and Outlook Express will not allow me to Delete any messages, old or
new.Menus just pops up and say, "This item cannot be deleted"
Any suggestions???
thanks

I think you have three different problems here, none of which would seem to
be related to Internet Explorer.
First, "XP will not allow mw to restore".
What happens when you try? Have you actually created a restore point? Are
you logged in with Admin rights?

Secondly, "Java has been damaged". well just re-install it.

Thirdly "OE will not allow me to delete any messages". From the Inbox
folder., or from another folder?

Can't see where IE comes into any of that.

Probably because I thought OE was part of IE.
Anyway , it will not allow me to move or delete any emails from the inbox to
the delete folder. I even tried to delete by right clicking and using the
delete from the menu and nothing happens.
How do I re-install Java??

Reference the restore point. I am set to create a restore point daily and
have restore pints all the way from the 1st of April, according to the
calendar within restore. It goes through the motions but comes back and says
, no changes have been made, try another restore point. I have tried almost
all of them. No luck.

technically, it is, but your problem is not the fault of IE!
You probably either have a corrupted Inbox or a corrupted Deleted Items
folder.

Try this: (the procedure is the same for the Deleted Items Folder)

Courtesy of Bruce Hagen:

First move any mail you want to save from the Inbox to a folder you

create. Then:

Tools>Options>Maintenance>Store folder will reveal the location

of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the

folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start>Run>Ctrl+V will

put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files.

Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows

Explorer.

In WindowsXP, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default

marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable

Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start>Control Panel>Folder

Options>View.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in

question {Inbox.dbx} and delete it. A new one will be created

automatically when you open OE.

Do not archive mail on default OE folders. They will eventually

become corrupted. Create your own user defined folders for storing

mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder

regularly.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually

while working *offline* and do it often.

File>Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar).

File>Folder>Compact all folders.

In Tools>Options>Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background

and leave it unchecked.
