I have checked for and removed any viruses and or adware / spyware. I have
tried every imaginable combination from msconfig. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled Internet Explorer 6.0. Nevertheless, when I click on the Internet
Explorer icon to open the program the hour glass appears for a few seconds,
you can see a momentary flash of the opening of the Internet Explorer screen
and then back to the desktop. I did try un-checking "Enable third-party
browser expensions" from the Advance Tab of the Internet Options as was
suggested in a letter to a party with a simular problem, but so far nothing
has enable Internet Explorer to open.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ted,

if nobody comes forward with a specific or a better idea, one
last thing to try is a repair installation of Windows XP.

Boot from the installation CD (needs to be a full retail
version), first select to install Windows XP, not to repair it.

Only after that select the repair installation of the existing
installation.

You want to have a current backup. There's always some risk.
