Okay, I know this isn't the most appropriate group for this, but I AM a
homebuilder, and some of the OS newsgroups are brutal.

I've been using MSN access for about 6 months. In the past month or two,
I've noticed I am losing connection to the net. At first it happened
maybe once in a 3 hours session, but it seems to be happening more and
more often: a BAD pattern! Now it's maybe every 30 minutes or less,
often enough to be annoying,

Just loses connection, but the computer stays on, running stably. I just
re-connect, but a pita.

I don't think I have any viruses. Norton AV (up to date) detects none. I
regularly clean with ad-aware. Hd is only 1/4 full.

amd xp1700
ecs k7s5a
384 sdram
40 g hd
WindowsXp Pro no sp installed
-usually IE (or msn9?)
-tried using Mozilla (with msn9 in background) but still happening.
-defragging did not help
-regularly run system clean up and delete unnecessary files.

Help!

Sounds like it is oversold in your area. Contact MSN. There is likely
nothing at all wrong with your hardware, drivers or software. -Dave

would this be dial up or broadband? There are two versions. Is it just
WWW or all connection is lost.

First thing to do is make sure your not loaded with- spyware-
malware -or any download managers- browser enhancers- toolbars- search
bars- porn bars -or whatever else come down the line.

Dial up:
Try reinstalling dialup networking, you can use add remove
programs - windows setup
Sometimes the Winsock files fall down.
Your modem could be giving up the connection...they don't last
forever. Has the ISP changed the hardware on their end?

broadband
go through the normal resetting of the modem etc etc
check that your USB/LAN connections are solid
your adapter is ok in the device manager?
after you lose the connection, can you use' ipconfig ' and release and
renew?

and contact MSN, because after all is done....its usually them

not a complete list of things by far.....

Assuming this is a dial up situation:
I'd install Juno free internet if you have a local number.
They give you 12 hours a month for free.
Install it, connect, and leave it on, and see what happens.
