After installing windows XP onto my new computer (fully
upgraded, also upgraded from Win 98 in case thats
important) my modem started a strange habit. It logs on
normally, it stays connected, but after a while it stops
recieving data. Not only that, but its sending a great
deal of data at incredible speed (this is an old 56k
modem at 28.8 connection). Over 10kbps are being sent,
and I cant be sure If I am being hacked (at every moment
I log onto the net?) or if i am simply ignorant of some
vague XP protocol?

This is no doubt a virus / worm of one kind or another.
