Hello people.

I have recently got myself connected to the net for
the first time at home.
I'm connected with PIPEX XTREME SOLO 500 (in the UK), through
a USB modem speedtouch 330.
The problem is: -
I connect to the net, everything thing is fine then after
5 - 10 mins microsoft explorer stops working and I get the
message unable to locate server etc... for every site I try.
Now, my connection is still open as my speedtouch connection
shows me i'm still sending and recieving data but I cant browse.
I have a programme called Dr Speedtouch which I then run
which shows,
my computer is fine
my modem is fine
my isp is fine
but there is an error with the internet.
I then go through the trouble shooter which can't help as all my
settings are already correct.
From then on internet explorer or the net in general will not work but
i'm still connected.
If I rebout the same thing happens, i'm connected for 5 - 10mins then
the browser fails and can't locate server.
I've ran a full virus check, nothing found.
Any help please???

best regards

Dj

You have maleware on your computer. Probably from free downloads from the
internet.

First , I would run a virus scan.

Second run spybot to remove maleware registry items
interferring with your internet browsing. Three use Highjackthis to remove
software with startup entries that were installed from free internet sites
that bog down your pc processor.

1) If you don't have reliable spyware/maleware removal, you can get it
with spybot free at :
http://www.net-integration.net/index.php?page=spybotsd#clean

I suggest you run the spybot scan. It will run awhile. WHen finished ,clean
recommended. Some entries will be in memory. The program ask if you would
like to fix at next boot up. Reply yes

It has an automatic backup so you can restore fixes.

2) You'll also need to remove startup registry items after running
spybot. Highjackthis is available free at:

http://www.net-integration.net/index.php?

They can help you with interpreting logs. Just follow their instructions.
You can wait for their interpretation or you can look for 04 startup entries.
I suggest you delete any software startup thats not store bought software

When the internet seems to lose connection:
Does email work?
What ip address are you getting when it cuts out?

Have you scanned for and removed all spyware and viruses?
If so, did you try the lspfix?

If the modem has a network cable connection in addition to the usb and you
have a nic in your computer, then try hooking it thru that instead of thru
usb. (I've found nic setups to be more stable than usb setups)

When IE stops working does a release and renew of your ip address get you
back on?

Have you talked to your isp about this?

Normally, we don't want you to post HijackThis logs here. However, I'll
go through this quickly for you this one time.

I would remove this:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} -

You probably have Spybot set to immunize IE. Try disabling that option,
which would mean that this .dll doesn't need to run:
C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll

This isn't causing your Internet problem, but it doesn't need to run:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NeroCheck] C:\WINDOWS\System32\\NeroCheck.exe

A Google for "popupblockerd.exe" brought me to a German web page about
trojans. If you know what third-party program this belongs to - and you
know it is a legitimate one - fine. Otherwise, uninstall the program
and get rid of this executable:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Popup Blocker System32 Monitoring]
PopUpBlockerd.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Popup Blocker System32 Monitoring]
PopUpBlockerd.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Popup Blocker System32 Monitoring]
PopUpBlockerd.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Popup Blocker System32 Monitoring]
PopUpBlockerd.exe
It really bothers me that it is showing up multiple times.

This isn't causing your problem, but you definitely don't need all of MS
Office starting up with Windows. Take it out of Startup:
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

Does this match your ISP's preferred DNS servers?
NameServer = 62.241.163.200 158.43.240.4

HTH,

Malke
