I just installed XP professional. my internet connection
cuts off within 5 minutes of startup when I am running
Norton Internet Security. I have Verizon DSL. Once I
start NIS, this will happen, even if I later turn NIS off.

And symantec support says what about this issue with their software?

In response, Symantec has done nothing but indicated
there is a conflict. I have spent days working on this
through msconfig and have determined that NIS is blocking
all internet communication after a few minutes or an
event which is not comming up in the log. I even found
that if I am on the internet long enough an NIS is just
disabled, it will interfere. Only when I completely
remove Norton will I have uninterrupted internet service.

Hi,

You can try troubleshooting it if you like, see:

However, I would invoke this saying: "satisfaction guaranteed or your money
back". Meaning I would uninstall it and contact Symantec for a refund.
Whatever you bought it for, there are other methods of achieving it that
will cause you far less grief.
