I just upgraded my laptop from xp home to xp pro. I
tried to make a new connection but when i get to "how do
you want to connect to the Internet?" it only offers me
one option which is "Connect using a broadband connection
that is always on". The other two is not are not
highlighted. I have dsl service and I must use PPPoE
client. My question is How do i install this client on
my computer. I have tried everything.

This probably means that you upgraded to XP Pro with a CD that does
not include XP Service Pack1 which was previously installed when you
were running XP Home. The upgrade removed SP1 but left two registry
keys behind in the rgistry. The upgrade also removed all other XP critical
updates which means that you are no longer protected from the
vulnerabilities
that the msblaster virus and its variants exploit. I recommend that you
physically disconnect from your DSL connection before following this
Knowledge Base article. Once your DSL connection is available again,
you will want to delete the two exported reg files so as not to accidentally
put them back into the registry before SP1 is downloaded and installed
again. Also be sure that the XP ICF is enabled or your third party firewall
is functioning before reconnecting your DSL connection. Then you will need
to go to the Windows Update site and first install SP1 again and reboot and
then go back to the Windows Update site and get all remaining critical
updates
installed.
