I follow the directions to enable internet connection sharing for my LOCAL AREA CONNECTION.

right click... PROPERTIES->ADVANCED-

(this is where I get stumped) Everything I have read to date, says that under this particular tab there should be INTERNET CONNECTION FIREWALL and INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING options. I only have INTERNET CONNECTION FIREWALL options. Why might I not have this INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING option.

My OS is Windows XP PRO 5.1 With the Service Pack 1. My friend has the same OS and he has the option for INTERNET CONNETION SHARIN

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The ICS option only appears when all of these are true:

1. There are at least two enabled, connected network connections: one
for the Internet, and one or more for the LAN.

2. The Internet Connection Firewall is disabled on the LAN
connection(s).

3. The Internet connection isn't bridged.

Thanks for the reply. This brings up another question... How do I do step 1 ("1. There are at least two enabled, connected network connections: one for the Internet, and one or more for the LAN.")... I tried to create another internet connection but it tells me that I should have on eworking already. I have an enabled connection for the LAN, which is what my broadband internet is coming through on..

hopelessly lost... please help

thank you,
Joh

I have the same problem...
1. I have two enabled connected network connections, one
for the internet and one for the lan.

2. ICF is disabled on both connections

3. NOTHING is bridged

Yet...the OS is treating my internet connection as
another LAN connection, what gives?
BTW, as a side note, why would my Firewire ports not show
up on my network connections folder?

Thanks for whatever insight you may give...

Sharing a broadband connection requires two physical network adapters:
one for broadband, and a different for the LAN. Installing another
network adapter will automatically create a new network connection.
