Anybody have this problem when trying to either
enable/disable ICF? : I followed the steps per KB #
283673 but after clicking Properties I don't get the box
with the Advanced tab- instead my ISP dialer keeps
appearing. ?? The only way I can enable or disable ICF is
to remove my ISP thru Add/Remove Programs and reinstall
it using the New Connection Wizard. Then, during that
process, the box with the Advanced tab appears and I have
the option of either enabling or disabling the ICF. Very
puzzling! I want to diable the ICF because I have McAfee
Firewall Plus enabled and McAfee recommends turning off
XP's ICF when another firewall is used.

Problem solved! I worked with my ISP (Mfire) support and
found that a networking component was unchecked and not
working. FYI- I went to Control Panel/ Add/Remove
Programs/clicked Add/Remove Windows components (on LH
side)/ Windows components (displayed)/ highlighted
networking services /clicked Details/added a checkmark
next to Simple TCP/IP Services. Restarted system and now
I can access the XP Internet Connection Firewall to
enable/disable it- following the steps outlined in KB#
283673 (Enable/disable Internet Connection Firewall) Only
disable it if you have another firewall (like McAfee or
Norton, etc.) enabled. It is suggested you NOT run XP's
ICF along with another one at the same time. That said,
you should have a good firewall software program running
instead of XP's built-in one which is very basic (but
better than nothing).
