Internet connection and Outlook Express

I've been experiecing a problem with Outlook Express. Whenever I check for mail on it, it downloads my messages then cuts off my internet connection. I am on a dial up system for the internet. Can any one offer any advice?
 
Tools>Options>Connection Tab. Make sure Hang up after sending and
receiving isn't checked.
