Happy 4th to everyone!

Anyone know of a company that offers cheap but safe disk space for home
users who want to backup their info somewhere on the internet?

It would be cheaper in the long run to buy an external hard drive and
backup to that.

I agree 200-300 gig drives have been going for $60 (specials)

just fill it up with your data, stick it back in the box and store it

You could use WhereIsIt http://www.whereisit-soft.com/ to catalog your
disk(s).

I subscribe to a service marketed to me originially thru Quickbooks for
$14.95/month where I can store up to 10 Gigs of data.

Recently I seen the bills coming from a company called "Iron Mountain". I
also received solicitations from AOL that offers a service called XDrive that
you can store your data on their servers. I used XDrive when it was a free
service a few years back.

I got a 200 Gig USB drive that I use Norton 9.0 to do weekly full backups
and daily incrementals.

BUT I also subscribe to a on line backup service. Why?? A good freind of
mine was developing some software in C++ spending two years on the effort.
His house was burglarized, and the thief took all his equipment including the
backup drive.

USB storage will not protect you from losses in the case of burglary, fire,
or a major hurricane like Katrina.

Google mail - allows up to 2Gig of email. Send yourself some attachements.

Cheap web hosting (100s available) - usually allows 10+Gigs of storage.

Depending on how much you have to back up, one possibility you might
consider is getting a free Gmail accound and sending your backup files as
attachments there. You get 2740MB you can use.

With that, there is also a 'gmail drive' connector you can use, that maps
your gmail account as a drive.
