Internet account pop3 setting keeps resetting to localhost

We are using Outlook 2000, I have the email configuration
for internet not corporate.

There are 4 internet accounts that are checked throughout
the day. On a daily basis, for some reason, the POP3
setting changes from the mail.<hostname>.com to localhost
and then adds to the username
<name>@<domain.com>/<hostname.com>.

We then have to go in, manually change the POP3 back to
the correct mail.<domain name>.com before we can receive
email again.

Then it will reset itself again. This causes several
problems, i.e. not getting email and when we reset - we
get 2nd copies of the email that was downloaded earlier.

Thanks - Julie

This is due to your antivirus software, not Outlook. Most newer AV programs
check mail in a more sophisticated manner than this clumsy "local proxy"
method. What AV product are you using? I'd check with the mfr. to see if
there's a newer version, or change to another AV product. Some people may
suggest disabling mail scanning entirely, but I think it's best to have as
many layers of protection as possible....

PC-cillin latest version. No Norton on the machine. I am
thinking its the hub that is sharing the connection for 3-
4 computers.

As you've been told, it's your antivirus program PC-Cillin. Disable its
Outlook integration. As long as you continue to run the real-time scanner,
you won't lose any security advantage.
