its on a diff wall socket,,,I have moved to another socket with the same
number in a diff room but still getting the slow connection,,,any Ideas?

If you are getting the same lousy connection speed on different phone jacks
in your house, you probably have a very noisy phone line. Plain Old
Telephone System (POTS) service technicians may or may not assist you in
"cleaning" up the line. According to their contract a POTS is only required
to give you a "clean" voice line and they are not responsible for any data
transmission. Depending on the age of your house and telephone connections,
you may try to connect right at the junction box outside your house (some
will actually have a jack for testing purposes and you can plug in the
computer there) and see if that increases your speed. If so, run a single
dedicated jack line to where your computer is used. When I had my second
line for just dial-up installed in my newly remodeled house, I was able to
get 53K reliably on one line but on the old line I was only able to get
about 24K. Line was disconnected when I finally got cable broadband access.
