Hi:

Please help if you can. Whenever I try to open media player, a
message says "internal application error", and it fails to open.
There is no numerical reference. At the same time I started having
that problem, some explorer pages started opening but are blank.
System restore opens, but the page is blank. "User Accounts" opens to
a blank page. And some web pages do the same, such as ms update.
Help and support is blank as well.

If anyone has an idea, I'd really appreciate any suggestions. I've
tried restoring from safe mode, but to no avail.

Jack :)

Perform a scan looking for malware:
Try downloading, installing and updating the
spyware removers from the links below. Run both of them.

Ad-aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Spybot S&D
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=download

Also go to Start > Run and type 'sfc /scannow'
(without quotation marks and noting the space between the c and the
forward slash)
This will ask for the XP CD.
It will check the system files and replace those damaged or missing.

You will need to download updates again.

Good luck
