intermittent lookup box info message

an info box pops up intermittently with the error: "The data has been
changed. Another user edited this record and saved the changes before you
attempted to save your changes. Re-edit the record." the lookup box is the
first control on the form, the user is to start entering the customer name,
when they find it, the customer record will be displayed on the form. by
hitting OK in the box and starting to type again, sometimes the error will
keep popping up a few more times and sometimes the customer is found with no
problem. any solutions?
